The embarkation ladder is a type of ladder specifically designed for use in marine and offshore environments. It is used as a means of safe embarkation or disembarkation from a vessel, particularly when the ship is anchored or moored and there is a need to transfer between the vessel and another craft, a pier, or the shore.
An embarkation ladder must reach from the deck to the waterline. It must operate under all trim conditions up to 10° and list up to 20° in either direction. An embarkation ladder is required at each embarkation station, or at every two adjacent stations for a survival craft launched alongside the vessel.
