These arrestors are designed to protect gas regulators and cylinders against flashback incidents, ensuring reliable and secure operations in maritime environments.

Maritime authorities, such as the Norwegian Maritime Directorate, mandate the installation of flame arrestors for acetylene and oxygen systems. Improper maintenance or misuse of gas welding equipment can cause flashbacks, posing significant risks.

Flashbacks typically stop at a well-designed torch, identified only by a popping sound. However, faulty handling, maintenance, or incorrect gas pressure settings may result in a penetrating flashback, where the flame travels through hoses and potentially reaches the regulator or even the cylinder.
