MARINE ACETYLENE GAS FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
Acetylene mixed with air can become explosive within a concentration range of 2.2% to 85% by volume. To ensure safety, avoid releasing acetylene into the air and ensure good ventilation in areas where acetylene cylinders are stored or used.
When acetylene cylinders are transported horizontally and then placed vertically again, it is crucial to wait at least 24 hours before using them. This waiting period allows the acetone inside the cylinder to redistribute properly. Using the cylinders too soon can lead to the following issues:
- When opening the top valve, significant amounts of acetone may be released, often mistaken for water or oil due to its slippery texture. Opening the valve without a regulator can create a serious fire hazard.
- When a regulator, twin hose, and torch are connected, the flame may become unstable due to acetone droplets, often referred to as “spitting.”
The recommended solution is to let the cylinder rest for at least 24 hours. In colder environments, a longer resting period may be required.
Features
- Colourless and slightly lighter than air.
- Non-toxic but can have an anesthetic effect if inhaled.
- Highly flammable gas.
- When mixed with oxygen for welding, the flame temperature can reach 3100ºC.
Benefits
- Suitable for various ship maintenance tasks, including welding, cutting, brazing, soldering, and heating.
- Designed for compatibility with AC-OX Gas Distribution Systems.
- Delivered in a Marine exchange cylinder with a barcode and a unique serial number for safety and traceability.
- Marine acetylene gas is an essential resource for efficient onboard maintenance while adhering to safety protocols for handling and use.
